Affiliated Network for Social Accountability in East Asia and the Pacific (ANSA-EAP) Foundation, Inc. hosts and implements the CheckMySchool initiative with support from the Open Society Foundation. It is a non-stock, non-profit corporation registered under the Philippine law.
The ANSA-EAP promotes social accountability in the region by providing networking and learning facilities. By social accountability, it refers to the process of constructive engagement between citizens and government for the monitoring of the use of public resources. It aims to improve the delivery of public services, promote community welfare and protect people’s rights.
Project Manager, CheckMySchool (CMS)
Redempto S. Parafina, or Dondon, is the Executive Director of the Affiliated Network for Social Accountability in East Asia and the Pacific (ANSA-EAP) Foundation, Inc. As an international development practitioner, he has recognized track record in civil society networking, capacity building and advancing innovations in citizen participation in governance. With over fourteen years of experience, he is consulted on the technical application of social accountability in various fields and sectors, such as education, health, public procurement, ICT, youth/children, among others. His work has spanned the Philippines and various East Asian countries. He is also a Senior Associate at the Ateneo de Manila University’s School of Government, where he has spearheaded various projects. He is a graduate student of philosophy, a boy scout and a dragonboat paddler.
Networking Coordinator, CheckMySchool (CMS)
James Nigel Panganiban has been a project associate of the Affiliated Network for Social Accountability in East Asia and the Pacific since 2017. He currently serves as CheckMySchool’s Network Coordinator. In this capacity, he has facilitated and monitored the operations of volunteers from a nationwide network of civil society groups, and concerned citizens. He has also assisted in the creation of tools, and mechanisms to extract information from local areas for use in school issue analysis and other research.
He has also previously served as a project associate for CheckMyBarangay project, a participatory budgeting initiative aimed at the Barangay/Village level, and POCOMON GO!, a monitoring project which tracked the delivery of Department of Education (DepEd) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) procured computers for Senior High Schools.
Research Coordinator, CheckMySchool (CMS)
Wilson Villones is a researcher of the Affiliated Network for Social Accountability in East Asia and the Pacific. At present, he is the Research, Knowledge Management and Learning Coordinator of CheckMySchool Philippines.
Mr. Villones has been working on a variety of governance projects, designing programs on monitoring for citizen groups, government institutions, international development partners and various other stakeholders. More recently, his works focused on citizen engagement, social accountability, transparency, M&E, and open data. Mr. Villones is also consulted on several government and CSO projects.
Communications Associate, CheckMySchool (CMS)
Darlene Motil works as Communications Associate at CMS. Since earning her degree in Communication in 2013, she had been working for non-government organizations. She writes and publishes contents on websites and the social media; she also does graphic designs.
As of writing, Darlene is trying to capture, in the form of videos and photos, the impact of CheckMySchool in the grassroots. Darlene wants to put her skills to good use by working for organizations with forward-looking initiatives and genuine intention to help its beneficiaries.
Administrative Associate, CheckMySchool (CMS)
Yliza Olaso is the administrative associate for CMS. She facilitates the pre and post logistics preparation for CMS events such as workshop, inboard and outboard meetings, and field visits. She also participated in the PWD Access Project study as the project associate.
